New Zealand Employers Lead the Charge to Reduce Impact of Climate Change

New Zealand’s first Emissions Reduction Program will put employers operating out of New Zealand at the forefront of reducing the impact of climate change. The aim of the program is to contribute to global efforts to limit temperature rise to 1.5˚C above pre-industrial levels.

Additional global warming can cause irreversible impacts to the environment including more extreme weather conditions that can severely affect agriculture and the economy, as well as put communities at risk of drought and more. Limiting temperature rise to 1.5˚C will make it easier for ecosystems, food and health systems to adapt.

This means employers across every sector of New Zealand from transport, energy, building and construction, waste, agriculture, forestry and more will need to adhere to targets and employ strategies to support the program.
