A Note from Rebecca Turco, SVP of Learning: Supporting Our Customers Through COVID-19

I’m not writing this from SAI Global’s office in Boston, but instead, from a makeshift desk in my kitchen. I have to be honest; I’m usually thinking about ethics and compliance, and our business, even when I’m at home under the most usual circumstances. But there is nothing usual about what’s happening around the world right now. The fact that my colleagues and I have spent the past five weeks working remotely to help protect each other and flatten the curve is the least of it.

COVID-19 has given us, and every industry, a stark reminder of the importance of risk management, compliance and culture. As we adjust to this new reality, I have dialed into many meetings with my teams and our customers recently. All of them start with a familiar and almost reflexive question that suddenly carries a new level of weight and empathy. Never in my professional career has “how are you doing?” come with such a complex response.

I’m not going to sit here behind my keyboard and pretend not to feel stress about how this is affecting our personal and professional lives, society, and healthcare systems. I worry about my employees and how stressful it is to work in this environment, let alone with the extra stress of managing children, relatives, friends and communities.

Being a leader means being human, and with all humans, it means being vulnerable, and I think if there was ever a time for that, it’s now. I am optimistic and hopeful, despite everything going on, that this pandemic is pushing all of us to solve problems we’d typically think about with more creativity, urgency, and resilience.

As the Senior Vice President of Learning at SAI Global, I know that we’ll get through this.

Every business will come out of this historic moment looking and thinking a bit differently, and we are no exception to that. Despite all the change, the constants keep me grounded. The need to mitigate risks and train people to do the right thing when confronted with complexity hasn’t gone away; it’s never been more evident.

The bonds that keep us connected – culture, trust, teamwork, and respect – are experiencing the stress tests of social distancing, pushed to new limits, hopefully growing stronger. Uncertainty is scary, but my team and I are ready to do everything in our power to help you and the Ethics & Compliance community in any way we can.

For starters, we’ve curated a selection of 10 assets from our collection that you can use with no strings attached. It includes videos, online training, and leader-led discussion toolkits aligned with some of the challenges you may be experiencing. This is an effort to minimize some of the burdens you might be facing and hopefully make it a little easier to get through the coming weeks and months.

We’ll keep thinking of new ways to be of value, but if there’s anything we can do, don’t hesitate to reach out. It would be great to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Turco
SVP of Learning at SAI Global
